I have to take exception to Bob comments on the itunes music. Yes apple locks you to a player, WMA locks you to an OS. As a listener, itunes let me access any podcast/vid cast file. It feels more free.
As for DRM, windows based DRM for purchased media is stored on you computer if it crashes it is gone, no song for you. Apple DRM is stored in your account, upto 5 computers, new computer, or a crash, reload the songs from the ipod and type a password and your done.
the hostility to the ipod is unfounded, it works will and sync flawlessly. I have owned 5 different brands of mp3 players, the management software is lacking. Play forsure my butt.
Opinions on apple vs windows are based on experiences. If my non ipod experience had been good I would be singing a different tune. However the important thing to consider here is ot which system is better, but why there can not be just one format that plays everywhere, or all players play every file.
Rather that fight which system is better will never get anywhere. One format, and no DRM is the fight we should put are energy into.

Hey Daryl,
I never said I was a fan of the way the Gates camp is doing it either. I’m not pulling for WMA to win anything.. My point wasn’t ipod vs other, it’s about lock’in. It’s bad for citizen media, and bad for music.
I want to be able to buy music/audio where I chose, and play it on the brand of equipment I chose. We’ve had that since LP’s, and why would we put up with that now?
And as for the plays-anywhere format, we’ve got it – MP3, not AAC or WMA.
