Great to have you guys back.

I just wanted to say I completely agree with Andrea that working to promote other people and never getting anything back is draining.

The Closet Geek Show was never as popular as Just One More Book and I never became a marketing vehicle (though I think I was trying to be), just the lack of acknowledgement from the audience and artists was enough to make me feel under-appreciated.

Man I sound like a whiner.

There’s a certain irony to this comment considering the experience that Andrea & Mark had re: getting feedback, etc. but Bob’s interview with Andrea was so captivating. I think anyone who does what we do has at some point experienced many of the emotions that Andrea so generously shared with Bob.

Lots of thoughts on my mind but I just wanted to thank Bob and Andrea for sharing that conversation.

Andrea – Congratulations on a wonderful “Just One More Book” run. Much to be proud about.

Big thanks to Bob for the very sensitive and supportive interview, to Bob and Mark for inviting me to participate and to Brent and Tim for the kind feedback.

    Excellent conversation, Bob and Andrea.

I’d been thinking of how to respond to it, furrowing my brow and going into some big rambling speech (yes, Bob, probably in one sentence). But I just noticed a line in some of Hugh McLeod’s (Gaping Void) work:

“You are responsible for your own experience.”

    Period.

    Welcome back.

Great to have new eps. of CPB. Not that I dislike the PAB outakes, but hearing the traditional CPB again is a treat. Have a great season five!

(and for the record, I live in PA but very near the Delaware state line and spend my time pretty much equally in both.)

    Great Show, guys!

Mark, Andrea and I have spoken about the Just One More Book situation at length, and it raises so many issues. Why did we start our podcasts? What were our goals? How have they changed over time? Where did we want these projects to go long term? Have they met or exceeded those goals? What’s next?
The funny thing is that if you believe what people like Mike Grehan of ClickZ are saying about the future of search and how important multimedia will be to the relevance of search, I am seeing more and more bloggers looking to add podcasting into their repertoire, so it always seems like a shame when those of us who’ve been around and have the experience start to think it’s just not worth the headaches anymore.
This is a big issue we all need to think about and discuss more. And thanks again, Andrea, for being so open and honest with your feelings.

First of all, welcome back guys…..hearing your voices again is a sure sign that summer is over. Sigh.

After the interview with Andrea, Mark said “I wonder how that story is going to effect the community and make people think.”

I hope that this is a wake up call to both MYSELF and others that to fire off a comment or an email of thanks and support to the people who toil over their art for free only takes us a few moments, but to the creators of the shows, it can mean the difference between feeling like your effort is appreciated and giving you the energy to keep going, or feeling like you might as well be washing the cat instead, which is easier and less painful then editing….

It was a relief to me to hear CPB once again – I was afraid it might have to take a back seat to the bigger, more important health issues in your life. Welcome back, guys, and congrats on coming up with a creative and positive way of making the show’s production less draining of your own energy. The way you’ve structured it with the guest hosting has the potential to enhance the show even as it eases your own burden. Question – does the guest host have to be Canadian? Or can they just be a Canadian-wannabe? ;^)

Losing Just One More Book is quite upsetting to me as someone for whom kidlit is both a job and a personal passion, so I was very interested to hear Andrea’s interview with Bob. I can certainly understand the frustration with lack of feedback, which I think is true for most podcasters. I think it’s made harder for Andrea because she’s not in the limelight as much as she deserves. Maybe you need a “making of” JOMB episode or series, to explain what goes into the creation of the show!

I think the “being too nice” thing might be the biggest factor in the way things ultimately went. If you do decide to restart JOMB, you’ll need to develop a polite-but-firm policy of only accepting or featuring books that are of interest to you, and not worry about hurting the feelings of publishers or authors. As long as you are polite, they have no reason to be insulted even if you don’t use their book on the show.

I still hope you’ll reconsider reviving JOMB!
