PAB2008 – Nora Young & Dan Misener
What Public Broadcasters Can Learn from Podcasters, and Vice-Versa presented by Nora Young and Dan Misener.
Nora and Dan produce and host CBC Radio’s Spark.
In many ways, radio and podcasting are similar. In many ways, they are different. But both have a lot to learn from one another.
Using CBC Radio’s Spark as a case study, Dan and Nora highlight some of the techniques and strategies cribbed from their podcasting experience and applied to their day jobs in public radio.
Using real-life examples punctuated with audio, Dan and Nora will cover:
- Matching form and content – using the tools of web 2.0 to talk about web 2.0
- Showing your seams to break down the fiction of radio — it’s neither live nor perfect
- Planning your show to create a conversation before, during, and after release
- Beyond show notes — posting raw audio to add value and subscribers to your blog
- Crowdsourcing content with blogs and wikis
- Using Creative Commons music to make your show both pod-and-broadcast safe
