We did a presentation on Building a Community with Chris Brogan this morning at PodCamp Toronto. We will try to have the audio published soon. In the meantime, here is a slide deck we used as notes — that is, the slides were not preojected or shared as part of the presentation.

[...] Building a Community Mark Blevis, Bob Goyetche, Chris Brogan A community is a critical mass of like-minded people assembling and interconnecting at the same point in time and (cyber)space. It is not “built” by anyone, it is formed throught the mutual interest and ideas share between these individuals. We cannot force something to be built. We should not look at the growing of the podcast/vidcast/etc community by building with force , but by facilitating the connections that will nurture organic growth. I really enjoyed seeing the presentation and the discussion it spun.
I’m now glad to be part of your community.

Hi Guys,
I just finished watching your presentation and just wanted to say thanks. I wasn’t able to make it down from Yellowknife to the conference but the video was great and really gave me stuff to think about when i’m looking to build my own community.
Just as an example of the power of community, my most popular episode so far was an interview i did with Juno winning blues man Jim Byrnes. Jim also acts in the Highlander Movies and TV shows. Apparently my podcast was found by a highlander forum and it got downloaded 60-70 times in a day (far above my 1-3 average). Just goes to show how an audience can come from anywhere on the internet.
Thanks for doing what you’re doing and I look forward to more shows.
See you guys next year.

Update on my site. Ykatnite the Podcast has gotten to it’s 9th episode (10-14 are in the waiting bin) and I’m slowly taking over the NWT.

I just wanted to say how much I am jealous of you for being at Podcamp.
I really wanted to go, but the business is keeping me in the bar-world. Julie Doiron (Eric’s Trip) and Baby Eagle (Constantines) were playing…I couldn’t go.
I mostly wanted to tell you that Shane and I appreciate your representation. You represent more than yourselves, as you likely know, and we are beyond thankful for your efforts to show off your bulgy Rogic muscles. Also, you are, in our minds, the best possible representation of strong, smart, informed blog/podcasters we know.
We hope you showed them a thing or two, as well as learned/got inspired by a thing or three.
Cheers
Tom
